Job summary

Placements24 seeks an experienced Environmental Health and Hygiene Officer in George, Western Cape. You will conduct inspections, risk assessments, and provide expert guidance on hygiene and sanitation to protect community health.

The role requires HPCSA registration, a bachelor's degree, and at least four years in a regulatory environment. You will enforce regulations, prepare detailed reports, and travel across the George region, supported by a company vehicle and ongoing professional

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, or a related field.
• Registration with the HPCSA as an Environmental Health Practitioner.
• Minimum 4 years of practical experience in environmental health or a similar regulatory role.
• Thorough knowledge of South African health and environmental legislation and policies.
• Proven ability to conduct inspections, risk assessments, and investigations effectively.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine inspections of food establishments, public spaces, and premises for compliance.
• Investigate complaints related to environmental health issues, including water quality and waste management.
• Develop public health education programs on food safety, sanitation, and disease prevention.
• Enforce legislation and bylaws, issuing notices and taking enforcement action when necessary.
• Advise businesses and individuals on best practices for maintaining hygiene and sanitation standards.
• Monitor water quality and other environmental factors impacting public health.
• Collaborate with government departments on public health initiatives.
• Prepare reports on inspections, investigations, and recommendations.
• Maintain records and data related to environmental health activities.
• Stay current with advances in environmental health science and policy.
