Job summary

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is seeking a Public Health Data Specialist for a fixed-term 30-month contract based in Pretoria. You will apply public health data expertise to support data product development and evidence-based decision-making, reporting to the Research Group Leader.

Responsibilities span requirements capture, data standards, dashboards and digital solutions, with collaboration across multidisciplinary teams in an Agile-like delivery environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in public health, health informatics, data science, informatics, computer science, information systems, statistics, biostatistics, or related field with 6+ years of experience working with public health data environments.
• Postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline would be advantageous.
• Experience translating public health data requirements into data products, dashboards, reports, or digital solutions.

Responsibilities

• Engage with public health stakeholders to understand and document requirements for public health data products.
• Provide subject matter expertise on health data, health information systems, data standards and reporting requirements.
• Translate health data requirements into data products, dashboards, reports and digital solutions.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design, develop, test and implement public health data products.
• Provide ongoing product direction throughout the delivery lifecycle.
• Support data quality, interoperability, standards and governance within public health data products.
• Facilitate product reviews and user feedback sessions for continuous improvement.
