About the Function

About the role

  1. Lead a public affairs strategy to protect Diageo’s license to trade by driving business transformation and compliance initiatives necessary for licensing and reputation building with stakeholders. Provide regulatory support for commercial expansion in line with SA city business strategies.
  2. Develop and implement BBBEE strategy aligned with Diageo’s ambitions, supporting HR planning, procurement, and commercial execution to optimize BBBEE outcomes. Track and report performance against targets to executives. Manage annual audits and secure valid certificates necessary for trading licenses and customer relationships. Ensure BBBEE aligns with Society 2030: Spirit of Progress targets on Inclusion and Diversity.

Role Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement BBBEE strategies in line with corporate ambitions.
  • Support HR, procurement, and commercial activities to enhance BBBEE results.
  • Monitor, report, and ensure compliance with BBBEE targets and certifications.
  • Maintain positive relations with regulators involved in licensing and trade within SWC Africa.
  • Lead the CR contribution to managing risks and strategic opportunities, including illicit trade response, regional trade agreements, and public sector incentives.
  • Drive advocacy campaigns on key risks and opportunities, including industry or business association alignment, media communication, and stakeholder mobilization.
  • Ensure compliance with SA industry marketing codes, Diageo marketing standards, and labeling regulations, including approval of marketing materials.

Requirements

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Political Sciences, Economics, or Legal studies.

Experience - Essential

  • At least 8 years managing regulatory affairs.
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
  • Experience implementing BBBEE programs for multinational companies.
  • Corporate communication skills, media management, and advocacy campaign experience.
  • Advanced stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Knowledge of Southern African policy, political landscape, and legislative framework.

Experience – Desired

  • Experience in the alcohol industry is advantageous.
