Kearsney College is a leading independent boarding and day school for approximately 650 boys from Grades 8 to 12. PSYCHOLOGIST

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Psychologist to join our team and support the well-being and academic success of our pupils. The ideal candidate will work closely with pupils, parents, teachers, and other medical professionals to foster a safe and nurturing environment that promotes mental health and educational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessing and supporting the emotional and educational well-being of pupils;
  • Providing individual and group counselling to help pupils manage emotional, social, and behavioural challenges;
  • Conducting psychological assessments to identify learning disabilities, emotional issues or other challenges affecting pupils’ performance;
  • Designing and implementing intervention strategies to address anxiety, social and academic struggles;
  • Offering immediate support during emergencies or crises such as traumatic events or mental health concerns;
  • Providing training for staff on topics such as mental health awareness and classroom behaviour management;
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to create individualised education plans (IEPs) and pupil support strategies.

Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Psychologist (Counselling, Clinical or Educational);
  • Minimum of 5+ years post-qualification experience;
  • Experience working with adolescents is essential, and prior experience in a secondary education/boarding school environment is preferred;
  • Cultural sensitivity and an understanding of diverse pupil backgrounds;
  • Effective organisational and time management abilities to balance assessments, counselling and planning;
  • Strong ethical principles and confidentiality practices;
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities;
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team;
  • Up to date with the latest developments as well as challenges facing adolescent psychology.
