Job summary

A leading company in the security sector is seeking a Surveillance Manager to oversee and coordinate surveillance operations. Job description

Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  1. Manage, plan, and coordinate work for the surveillance team through effective liaison with other Protection Services Managers.
  2. Schedule work for the surveillance team.
  3. Continuously liaise with the Head of Protection Services to determine priorities and provide feedback.
  4. Determine and manage projects to address client needs.
  5. Provide progress reports on surveillance activities and projects to clients.
  6. Monitor security indicators and trends in the organization to identify surveillance needs.
  7. Ensure resources are allocated effectively to support surveillance activities.
  8. Implement contingency plans to protect surveillance teams from risks in adverse conditions.
  9. Identify best practices applicable to surveillance through benchmarking other organizations.
  10. Identify situations requiring external expert advisors or other divisions of Protection Services.
  11. Verify the reliability of gathered information.
  12. Advise management on effective surveillance approaches and technologies relevant to security risk management.
  13. Manage large surveillance projects involving other security agencies.
  14. Ensure surveillance is conducted according to set procedures and best practices.
  15. Ensure effective application of surveillance technologies.
  16. Develop relationships with internal and external service providers.
  17. Ensure effective communication systems to support investigations.
  18. Maintain open two-way communication with employees.
  19. Ensure a safe and productive work environment and set targets for improvement.
  20. Support and participate in training and development, especially regarding new systems and practices.
  21. Ensure employees have clear work expectations and plans.
  22. Interview potential recruits.
  23. Handle disciplinary and grievance inquiries.
  24. Identify and minimize potential conflict situations.
  25. Manage discipline fairly and make equitable decisions regarding employee relations.
  26. Foster cultural diversity and inclusion.
  27. Identify ideas to increase motivation.
  28. Ensure fair work allocation and assess employee competency.
  29. Mentor surveillance personnel for personal growth.

Qualifications:

  • National Diploma in Security Management or equivalent.
  • B Tech in Security Management or equivalent NQF level 7 (Degree) will be advantageous.
  • Registered with PSIRA at grade A.
  • Valid driver’s license (Code B).
  • CCTV advanced surveillance skills and body language course.

Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in security or related environment, with exposure to investigation, crime analysis, information gathering, or surveillance.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in security management.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of strategic and operational planning and management.
  • Proficiency in organizational systems.
  • Understanding criminal behavior and suspect profiling.
  • Basic business communication and report writing skills.
  • Excellent English communication skills.
  • Interpersonal, coaching, mentoring, presentation, and evidence handling skills.
  • Management and leadership capabilities.
  • Threat and risk assessment, crisis management, and security legislation knowledge.
  • Financial management, statement taking, and report writing skills.
  • Response coordination to violent crimes and emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of investigations, information gathering, surveillance, and counter-industrial action procedures.
  • Clean criminal record, able to pass polygraph test.
  • Understanding of security-related policies and international best practices.
  • Cultural diversity awareness, resource management skills.
