An opportunity for an experienced PROPOSALS ENGINEER is required for permanent employment based in Richards Bay.

Role Overview

The Proposal Engineer will assist the Key Account Managers in preparing proposals and cost estimations for new projects, equipment upgrades and modernisation, technical services, major equipment repairs, customer liaison, marketing, and business sales strategy for Aluminium smelters.

This role may require travel to customer sites.

Responsibilities
  1. Receive tenders / RFQ specifications.
  2. Liaise with external suppliers, prepare high-quality scopes of work, submit RFQ to suppliers, review, and adjudicate proposals received.
  3. Monitor, respect, and adhere to tender deadlines.
  4. Communicate with the head office to request engineering and/or material quotations.
  5. Draft project proposals for review with the Key Account and Proposal Manager for approval.
  6. Draft the commercial estimation and review with the Key Account Manager for approval.
  7. Follow up the client evaluation process until order placement.
  8. Compile project handovers when an order is received.
  9. Attend close-out meetings at the end of projects to optimise future proposals.
  10. Support repairs business with proposal reviews, bills of material, scopes of work where needed.
  11. Interpret technical manuals, parts lists, bills of material, and installation manuals for equipment to aid in proposal building.
  12. Conduct occasional site inspections to aid in understanding and job scoping.
  13. Review requests for quotation for equipment repairs with the Key Account Manager.
  14. Align customer's request with cost-effective, technical, and operational requirements for repair work.
  15. Contribute to the timely and efficient preparation of repair costings, liaising with the Key Account Manager for sales strategy.
Qualifications & Experience
  • South African Grade 12 / Matric is required.
  • Tertiary Qualification (at least N.Dip.) in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering fields.
  • Project costing or similar estimating experience is essential.
  • Supply Chain / Purchasing experience will be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of project management principles is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of heavy industrial equipment repair and modifications is advantageous.
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge as part of client solutions.
  • Understanding of project site work for proposal development.
