Job summary

Network Finance is supporting an international leader in mining technology in Africa by recruiting a Business Development Engineer. The role focuses on identifying new opportunities, building long-term client relationships, and delivering integrated technical and commercial solutions to major mining operations.

You will engage with engineering and procurement teams, develop a strong sales pipeline, and help influence project specifications from early stages through to order intake and revenue

Qualifications

  • BEng in Mechanical, Mining, or Process Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 3–8 years' experience within mining, mineral processing, or heavy industrial equipment.
  • Proven experience identifying, developing, and closing capital equipment opportunities.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience in lifecycle costing and financial evaluations.
  • Experience working within African mining operations will be highly advantageous.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Willingness to travel locally and internationally.
  • Valid driver's license. Valid passport.

Responsibilities

  • Identify greenfield, brownfield, expansion, and replacement projects.
  • Develop and manage a qualified sales pipeline with regular opportunity reporting.
  • Influence project specifications through early technical engagement.
  • Interpret client process requirements, production targets, and site conditions.
  • Develop fit-for-purpose equipment selections and system solutions.
  • Assess technical feasibility and identify project risks with mitigation strategies.
  • Support customers with technically sound and commercially viable solutions.
  • Prepare technical and commercial proposals for capital equipment projects.
  • Present lifecycle cost analyses and demonstrate long-term customer value.
  • Support contract negotiations by defending technical proposals and assumptions.
  • Contribute to order intake, revenue growth, and profitability targets.
  • Deliver technical presentations to engineering, operations, and procurement teams.
  • Conduct customer site visits and technical assessments.
  • Ensure smooth project handovers from sales to project execution teams.
  • Provide market intelligence and customer feedback to senior management.
  • Represent the business at industry conferences, exhibitions, and networking events.
  • Maintain strong long-term customer relationships through regular engagement.

Education

BEng in Mechanical, Mining, or Process Engineering (or equivalent)
3–8 years' mining/mineral processing experience
Proven capital equipment opportunities experience
Commercial acumen and lifecycle costing
Africa mining operations experience (advantage)
Communication and relationship-building
Travel willingness (local/international)
Driver's license and passport

Key Responsibilities
Business Development
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities within the mining sector across Africa.
