Description

Our multinational client based in Richards Bay is currently looking to employ an experienced Proposal Engineer to their team.

The Proposal Engineer will assist Key Account Managers in preparing proposals and cost estimations for new projects, equipment upgrades, modernization, technical services, major equipment repairs, customer liaison, marketing, and business sales strategy for smelters.

This role may require travel to customer sites.

Requirements:

  • South African Grade 12 / Matric is required.
  • Tertiary Qualification (at least N.Dip. level) in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering fields.
  • Project costing or similar estimating experience is essential.
  • Supply Chain / Purchasing experience will be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of project management principles is advantageous.
  • Computer literacy: Word, Excel, Microsoft Projects required.
  • Knowledge of heavy industrial equipment repair and modifications is advantageous.
  • Able to apply technical knowledge to provide solutions to clients.
  • Understand the process of project site work for building proposals.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Proposals:

  • Receive tenders / RFQ specifications.
  • Liaise with external suppliers, prepare scopes of work, submit RFQ, review, and adjudicate proposals.
  • Respect and adhere to tender deadlines.
  • Coordinate with the head office for engineering and material quotations.
  • Draft project proposals for review and approval by Key Account and Proposal Manager.
  • Prepare commercial estimates and review with the Key Account Manager.
  • Follow up on client evaluations until order placement.
  • Compile project hand-overs upon order receipt.
  • Participate in project close-out meetings to improve future proposals.
  • Support repairs business with proposal reviews, bills of material, and scopes of work.
  • Interpret technical manuals, parts lists, and installation manuals to assist in proposal building.
  • Conduct site inspections as needed for job understanding and scoping.

Equipment Repairs:

  • Review RFQ requests for equipment repairs with the Key Account Manager.
  • Align customer requests with cost-effective, technical, and operational requirements.
  • Assist in preparing repair costings and liaise with the Key Account Manager for sales strategies.
