The Proposal Engineer will assist Key Account Managers in preparing proposals and cost estimates for new projects, equipment upgrades, modernization, technical services, major repairs, customer liaison, marketing, and sales strategies for aluminium smelters.

This role may require travel to customer sites.

Responsibilities :

1. Receive tenders / RFQ specifications.
2. Liaise with external suppliers, prepare detailed scopes of work, submit RFQ to suppliers, review and evaluate proposals received.
3. Monitor, respect, and adhere to tender deadlines.
4. Coordinate with the head office to request engineering and/or material quotations.
5. Draft project proposals for review with the Key Account and Proposal Manager for approval.
6. Prepare commercial estimates and review with the Key Account Manager for approval.
7. Follow up on the client evaluation process until order placement.
8. Compile project hand-overs upon order receipt.
9. Participate in close-out meetings to improve future proposals.
10. Support repair business with proposal reviews, bills of material, and scopes of work as needed.
11. Interpret technical manuals, parts lists, bills of material, and installation manuals to aid proposal development.
12. Conduct site inspections as needed to better understand and scope jobs.
13. Review RFQ requests for equipment repairs with the Key Account Manager.
14. Align customer requests with cost-effective, technical, and operational requirements for repairs.
15. Assist in preparing repair cost estimates and liaise with sales strategy efforts.

Education and Qualifications :

1. South African Grade 12 / Matric is required.
2. At least a National Diploma (N.Dip.) in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering fields.
3. Experience in project costing or similar estimating is essential.
4. Supply Chain / Purchasing experience is beneficial.
5. Knowledge of project management principles is advantageous.
6. Understanding of heavy industrial equipment repair and modifications is beneficial.
7. Ability to apply technical knowledge to client solutions.
8. Understanding of project site work processes for proposal development.
