Interim Commercial Surveyor
East London/Hybrid
£500 per day (Umbrella)

An East London Local Authority is seeking an Interim Commercial Building Surveyor to join their Property team and support the effective management of the Council’s extensive commercial property portfolio.

Role Overview:
This is a key role within the Council’s Commercial Property team, reporting to the Commercial Manager. You will be one of nine team members responsible for overseeing a diverse portfolio of over 600 commercial properties, comprising predominantly retail units, alongside industrial sites, offices, land, and community centres.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage rent reviews and lease renewals across the portfolio
  • Handle tenant applications for assignments, subletting, alterations, and Deeds of Variation
  • Coordinate and advise on dilapidations processes
  • Support the management of the Council’s operational commercial assets
  • Ensure compliance, optimise income, and minimise outstanding lease events and tenant disputes
  • Deliver solutions to complex property issues, balancing Council and stakeholder needs
Requirements:
  • Member or Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS/FRICS)
  • Demonstrable experience in managing commercial property portfolios in a public sector or similar setting
  • Proficient in handling lease events and tenant negotiations
  • Strong understanding of landlord and tenant legislation and best practice
