Job summary

MRI Software in Cape Town is seeking a Property Accountant to support clients across property accounting, handling subledger and general ledger tasks in a hybrid setup.

The role requires 2–4 years in property accounting for commercial or residential management, a bachelor’s degree, and strong communication; you’ll align with UK/NA hours and collaborate with clients worldwide.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years’ experience as a property accountant with commercial or residential management company.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, peers, and management through written and/or verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work under deadlines.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage priorities.
  • A high degree of dependability, motivation and flexibility.

Responsibilities

  • This position will assist in administering all levels of Property Accounting and special projects as needed by management.
  • Assist with creating transactions and invoicing tenants; posting receipts for tenant payments.
  • Credit control activities including aged debt reporting, sending arrears letters and liaising with tenants.
  • Supporting with coding supplier invoices and producing supplier statements.
  • Running the full end-to-end process with service charges (raising on accounts, recovering expenditure, billing voids & year end reconciliations).
  • Bank reconciliations.
  • Assist with VAT reporting.
  • Month/Year end activities including closing periods, running GL reports (Trial Balance) and reconciling balance sheet accounts.
  • Onboarding new portfolios – static lease data & financial opening balances.
  • Lease administration (reconciling portfolio data against leases and managing the lifecycle of leases).

Job description

Position Overview

The Property Accountant will work closely with our clients to help support across all property accounting areas. The tasks will include both subledger and general ledger activities. The Property Accountant will work on various projects as they arise, providing the chance to learn new systems, processes and procedures. The below responsibilities are not an exhaustive list, and each one could contain more sub-tasks.

We understand the need to provide a flexible working environment partnered with team collaboration and socialisation. Therefore, we operate a hybrid working model with 3 days of working from home per week. Please note that the successful candidate will be required to align with either UK or North American business hours, working Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities
  • This position will assist in administering all levels of Property Accounting and special projects as needed by management.

Key Requirements
  • Must be able to work during UK/NA hours and South African public holidays (you will receive take UK/NA holidays instead of SA holidays).
  • 2-4 years’ experience as a property accountant with commercial or residential management company.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, peers, and management through written and/or verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work under deadlines.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage priorities.
  • A high degree of dependability, motivation and flexibility.
Nice To Have
  • Experience using MRI Software applications.
  • Understanding of Property & Lease Management processes & principles.
  • Comfortable with System Administration tasks (non-technical).
  • Knowledge of Turnover Rent or IFRS16.
  • Previous experience with client facing roles.
