About the Role

Our client, a key player in the utility sector, is seeking a seasoned Project Manager to oversee critical infrastructure upgrade projects in the Upington, Northern Cape region. This role is essential for ensuring the reliable and efficient delivery of essential services through the management of network upgrades, maintenance, and expansion projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of utility infrastructure, project management methodologies, and a proven ability to manage complex projects with significant stakeholder involvement. This is a site-based role requiring hands-on management and coordination within the Upington area. We are looking for a leader committed to ensuring the highest standards of safety and operational integrity.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all phases of utility infrastructure upgrade projects, from planning and design through to execution, commissioning, and handover.


• Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource allocation for assigned projects.


• Coordinate effectively with internal engineering teams, field crews, contractors, and regulatory bodies.


• Oversee on-site construction and installation activities, ensuring adherence to safety regulations, environmental standards, and quality specifications.


• Manage project finances, including budget tracking, cost control, and invoice verification.


• Identify and mitigate project risks, implementing proactive solutions to minimize disruptions to service delivery.


• Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards, permits, and governmental regulations.


• Conduct regular site inspections, progress meetings, and provide comprehensive project status reports to senior management.


• Manage vendor and contractor relationships, ensuring contractual obligations are met.


• Facilitate clear and consistent communication among all project stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical) or a related technical field.


• A minimum of 7 years of proven experience in project management, with a focus on utility infrastructure projects (water, electricity, telecommunications).


• Demonstrated experience managing project budgets of R4 million or more.


• Strong understanding of utility operations, infrastructure lifecycles, and relevant regulatory frameworks.


• Proficiency in project management software such as MS Project, Primavera P6, or similar.


• Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
