Placements24 is seeking a skilled Project Manager to oversee design, implementation, and commissioning of advanced automation systems for manufacturing plants. The role is based in Benoni, Gauteng, and requires on-site presence to closely collaborate with clients and project teams.

You will manage entire project lifecycles, coordinate with engineering teams and vendors, and ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and quality throughout.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, mechatronics or related technical discipline.
• 6+ years in project management with 4+ years in industrial automation or manufacturing systems integration.
• Experience managing PLC, HMI, SCADA, robotics, and other automation technologies.
• Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills; ability to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Oversee full lifecycle of industrial automation projects from client intake to handover.
• Develop detailed project plans: scope, budget, resources, timelines.
• Coordinate with internal engineers, suppliers and client staff.
• Ensure safety standards, regulatory compliance, and quality control.

About the Role

Our client, a leader in industrial automation solutions, is seeking a skilled and results-oriented Project Manager to oversee the design, implementation, and commissioning of advanced automation systems for manufacturing and processing plants. Key Responsibilities

Manage the complete project lifecycle for industrial automation systems, from initial client consultation and requirements gathering to system design, installation, testing, and handover. Develop detailed project plans, including scope definition, budget management, resource allocation, and realistic timelines. Coordinate effectively with internal engineering teams, external suppliers, and client operational staff. Ensure all projects adhere to stringent safety standards, industry regulations, and quality control procedures. Oversee procurement of automation hardware, software, and related services, managing vendor relationships and contracts. Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, ensuring timely resolution of issues that may impact project delivery. Monitor project progress, budget expenditure, and performance metrics, providing regular status reports to stakeholders. Conduct site surveys, commissioning activities, and post-implementation support. Champion best practices in project management and industrial automation implementation.

Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline. A minimum of 6 years of experience in project management, with at least 4 years specifically in industrial automation, process control, or manufacturing systems integration. Proven experience managing projects involving PLC, HMI, SCADA systems, robotics, and other automation technologies. Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and operational challenges. Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6) and familiarity with automation software tools. Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and negotiation skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities effectively. Must be willing to travel to client sites as required for project execution and commissioning. Based in or able to commute daily to Benoni, Gauteng.
