Available Position: Project Manager : Embedded Development

Project Manager with experience in Electronic Engineering Development (Hardware and Software) R&D experience (C, C++, Python) PCB Layout and Manufacturing experience.

Purpose of the Role: Responsible for providing overall project management for the company's product developments.

The engineering project manager will be looked to for guidance and decision-making on major issues related to the execution and delivery.

Will maintain an ongoing work plan and will ensure that all development work carried out is in alignment with the goals and objectives of the Innovation Strategy as defined by the Executive and Chief Innovation Officer.

This individual will be a key contributor to the engineering team for planning, budgeting and other general management issues, as well as in mentoring others in project management practices.

Minimum Experience Required:

1. 4-7 years' experience in the electronic, engineering field
2. Hardware and software R&D experience (non-negotiable)
3. Gas detection technologies experience beneficial
4. Knowledge of Collision Warning and Detection technologies
5. SCADA
6. Instrumentation and Control
7. Experience in working in a multi-disciplinary environment (advantages)

Minimum Qualifications Required:

1. Bachelor's degree in electronic / computer engineering / software engineering
2. Masters or doctoral level degree (advantageous)

Competencies:

1. Experienced in Electronic Engineering Development
2. Experience in budget management
3. Experience in subcontractor management
4. Extensive experience in Engineering Project Management
5. Experience with Prince or PMBOK project management methodologies
6. Extensive experience managing in a cross-functional team environment, which includes but are not limited to, hardware, firmware, software and mechanical disciplines
7. Knowledge of the System Engineering Process and Configuration Management
8. Strong background in hardware or software R&D
9. Experienced in formal qualification and certification procedures
10. Experienced in Configuration Management
11. Experienced with support ticketing systems and life cycle management
12. Familiar with Atlassian – Confluence and JIRA
13. Well versed in communication techniques and technologies
14. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
15. Strong written and oral communications skills

Advantageous Skills:

1. Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to lead other engineers effectively
2. Experience in engineering procurement
3. Knowledge of gas detection technologies
4. Knowledge of Collision Warning and Detection technologies
5. Intrinsic Safety experience beneficial
6. Familiar with certification procedures at SABS, MSHA, ATEx, ANZEx
7. Experience in heavy engineering or mining environments
8. Software Programming : Python, C, C++, ROS
9. Hardware Design : PCB Layout and Manufacturing

Responsibilities:

1. Creates and executes project work plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing requirements
2. Manages resources in conjunction with functional managers, production, and sub-contractors
3. Manages day-to-day operational aspects of project and scope
4. Effectively manages project risk through risk management strategies and planning
5. Effectively manages project deliverables through resourcing, budget, and scope management planning
6. Monitors and reports on schedule, cost, scope, and risk
7. Prepares for engagement reviews and quality assurance procedures
8. Ensures project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately
9. Contributes and actively participates in general engineering activities (meetings, discussions, activities, engineering change requests, etc.)
10. Actively participates in and contributes to engineering project reviews, including documentation reviews and project reviews
11. Contributes to overall engineering team performance and successes
12. Complies with and applies internally defined and established project management standards and policies including rolling wave, agile, and hybrid methodologies
13. Provides recommendations for project management process improvement
14. Actively participates in reviews of requirements, architectures, and designs
15. Complies with established standards and best operating practices
16. Performs prototyping and modelling to validate interpretation of requirements, architecture, and designs
17. Identifies related problems before resources are committed to addressing designs and architectures

Configuration:

1. All documentation to be configured in accordance with internal configuration management policies and procedures
2. Issue tracking to be conducted in accordance with established standards and procedures
3. Actively participates in formal baseline establishments
4. Adheres to ECR processes and procedures
5. Preserves the integrity and traceability of the configuration throughout the system life cycle

Budget and Project Inputs:

1. Provides inputs required for project scoping (work breakdown, coordination)
2. Provides inputs for project scheduling and estimation (timescales, required level-of-effort)
3. Identifies assumptions and potential risks to be considered during estimation and scoping
4. Suggests risk reduction and mitigation measures
5. Identifies opportunities for project artefact reuse
6. Identifies opportunities for efficiency and savings

Supplier Management:

1. Provides inputs required for contractor's / supplier's estimated levels-of-effort (work breakdown, coordination)
2. Prepares Statements of Work (SOW's) for contractors' work allocations as required by project management
3. Identifies assumptions and potential risks to be considered during estimation and scoping
4. Suggests risk reduction and mitigation measures
5. Implements risk reduction and mitigation measures to ensure contractors' / suppliers' success
6. Ensures contractors' / suppliers' deliverables meet quality and performance criteria prior to invoice sign-offs
7. Confirms contractors' / supplier's invoices match deliverables and quoted level-of-effort invoiced for
