Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Industrial Relations Officer to join our client’s Human Resources team. The successful candidate will provide dedicated Industrial Relations advisory services to management, supervisors, and employees, ensuring adherence to policies, procedures, and employment legislation.

Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure all policies, procedures, and employment legislation are adhered to.
  2. Advise on, facilitate, execute, and implement applicable Human Resources / Industrial Relations practices by identifying risks and helping with preventative measures.
  3. Manage relationships with unions, ensuring that the company's treatment of employees aligns with core business values and objectives.
  4. Maintain positive employee relations within the company.
  5. Manage complaints, grievance procedures, and facilitate counselling sessions in conjunction with relevant stakeholders.
  6. Promote a harmonious work environment by addressing employee concerns and handling labour disputes.
  7. Mediate conflicts and disputes.
  8. Ensure compliance with labour laws and regulations.
  9. Investigate and resolve complex or critical industrial relations issues in a timely and effective manner.
  10. Collaborate with teams and senior management on industrial relations matters.
  11. Chair disciplinary and incapacity hearings, handle grievances, and assist with operational requirement termination processes.
  12. Represent the company at CCMA for external dispute resolution.
  13. Train Managers, Supervisors, and Team Leaders on managing poor performance and initiating disciplinary processes in the workplace.
  14. Manage all administration related to industrial relations.

Requirements:

  1. Qualification in Labour Relations, Industrial Relations, or related fields.
  2. 5-10 years of experience in Labour Relations.
  3. Proven experience working with unions and shop stewards.
  4. Knowledge and understanding of HR policies and procedures.
  5. Experience and understanding of employment legislation.
  6. Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and influencing skills.
