Job Title: Project Engineer - Mine Closure & Rehabilitation

Location: Gauteng, Randburg

Construction Supervision
  • Serve as client representative on site for projects.
  • Ensure on-site quality assurance and conformance to designs and specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and Mine Health and Safety Act.
  • Verify measurement and calculation of quantities for payment certificates.
  • Address on-site deviations from scope, designs, and specifications.
  • Monitor construction activities and program adherence, ensuring contractor compliance.
  • Witness onsite quality tests and approve procured materials.
  • Compile daily diaries and progress reports.
  • Attend and facilitate progress and technical/coordination meetings.
Project Coordination
  • Coordinate project execution in line with Mintek's strategies and goals.
  • Manage and evaluate project documents, including scoping, bills of quantity, and budgets.
  • Manage tasks proactively to identify and address problems early.
  • Engage with stakeholders to understand and manage expectations.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly project progress and financial reports.
Design and Documentation
  • Prepare detailed mine rehabilitation designs and construction drawings.
  • Compile tender documents with accurate specifications.
  • Manage project documents from contractors, including scoping reports and budgets.
  • Conduct desktop studies, site investigations, and pre-feasibility studies.
  • Manage specialist consultants such as geotechnical experts and surveyors.
Stakeholder Management
  • Engage with stakeholders to manage expectations.
  • Attend meetings with law enforcement and security providers.
  • Manage relations with mining communities and contractors, escalating issues as needed.
  • Oversee security and team management for shaft installations.
  • Prepare audit and findings reports for D&O programs.
  • Handle budgeting, estimates, tendering, and technical evaluations.
  • Manage project statistics and costing.
SHEQ Management
  • Implement SHEQ procedures to ensure safety and health standards.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, including the Mine Health and Safety Act.
  • Conduct risk assessments and review contractor SHEQ reports.
  • Develop and review SOPs and management forms.
  • Standardize tender documents and evaluation criteria.
Qualifications and Experience
  • MEng or MSc in Earth Sciences or related fields; PhD preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of the mining industry, mining communities, or the public sector.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in project management related to mine closure, civil engineering, or earthworks.
