Job summary

A leading company in the engineering sector is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to oversee the construction and commissioning of mechanical systems for capital projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mining operations, compliance with safety regulations, and a strong emphasis on leadership and strategy development. This role is crucial for maintaining project milestones and ensuring high standards in engineering outputs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years' experience managing the mechanical engineering discipline in major capital projects.
  • Experience in mechanical design and installation of major capital projects within mining.

Responsibilities

  • Guide EPCM Company on mechanical standards and designs.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and conduct HAZOP studies.
  • Provide feedback to project manager and support mechanical project team.

Job description

  • Guide the EPCM Company in terms of mechanical standards and designs to be used.
  • Construction and commissioning of the mechanical systems in green field/brown field expansion of the Assmang operations and ancillary infrastructure.
  • Ensuring compliance with Mine Health and Safety Act & Regulations,
  • EMPR, WULA and all other statutory requirements in the design and implementation of equipment and systems.
  • Ensuring that the requisite HAZOP studies are conducted during project implementation.
  • Provide weekly, monthly and quarterly feedback to the project manager.
  • Work closely with contractors, subcontractors, operations and senior management to support and guide the mechanical project team in their effort to achieve key milestone deliverables.
  • Provide strategic, expert advice and consultation on the design and implementation of the mechanical systems within the scope of the project.

Job requirements

  • Mechanical Engineering/Diploma in Engineering (NQF level 6) or equivalent.
  • Government Certificate of Competency (GCC).
  • Project Management qualification and experience will be an advantage.
  • Experience in mechanical design and installation of major capital projects within mining and related industries.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer will serve as an added advantage.
  • A minimum of 8 years' experience in managing the mechanical engineering discipline in major capital projects.
