Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Project Engineer specializing in HVAC systems for our Centurion, Gauteng office. You will design, specify and implement advanced HVAC solutions for commercial and industrial projects across South Africa, ensuring performance, efficiency and regulatory compliance.

You will lead load calculations, system selections, drawings and BOQs, while coordinating with architects and other engineers to deliver integrated building solutions.

Qualifications

• BEng/BSc in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum of 6 years of HVAC design and project management experience.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC design software (AutoCAD, Revit MEP, HAP/Trace 700).
• Solid grounding in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and building science.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and engineering of complex HVAC systems for new and retrofit projects.
• Prepare detailed HVAC designs including load calculations, duct layouts, piping diagrams, and equipment selection.
• Create technical specs, drawings and BOQs for tender and construction phases.
• Manage project timelines, budgets and resources to ensure on-time delivery.
• Oversee on-site installation, commissioning and testing for performance verification.

About the Role

Our client, a leader in sustainable building solutions and energy management, is seeking an experienced Project Engineer specializing in HVAC systems for their office in Centurion, Gauteng . This role is crucial for managing the design, specification, and implementation of advanced HVAC systems for commercial and industrial projects across South Africa. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and HVAC design principles, coupled with excellent project management skills. You will be responsible for ensuring that all systems meet performance, efficiency, and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and engineering of complex HVAC systems for new construction and retrofitting projects.
• Develop detailed HVAC system designs, including load calculations, ductwork layout, piping schematics, and equipment selection.
• Prepare technical specifications, drawings, and Bills of Quantities (BOQs) for tender and construction phases.
• Manage HVAC project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring successful project delivery.
• Oversee on-site installation, commissioning, and testing of HVAC systems to verify performance and compliance.
• Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, and other consultants to ensure integrated building design.
• Conduct energy modeling and analysis to optimize system efficiency and sustainability.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues encountered during the project lifecycle.
• Ensure all designs and installations comply with relevant building codes, standards (e.g., SANS), and environmental regulations.
• Provide technical support and guidance to site teams and clients.

Requirements

• BEng/BSc in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in HVAC system design and project management.
• Proven expertise in HVAC system design software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit MEP, HAP, Trace 700).
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, psychrometrics, and building science.
• Demonstrated experience in managing project budgets and schedules effectively.
• Excellent knowledge of local building codes and HVAC standards in South Africa.
• Experience with sustainable building practices and energy-efficient HVAC solutions.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client and stakeholder engagement.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr. Tech Eng) registration with ECSA is highly desirable.
