Job summary

Lexdan Select is assisting an Alternative Energy Company with finding a capable Project Engineer based in Cape Town. You will lead technical project execution for utility-scale BESS and hybrid PV/BESS projects, coordinating engineering teams, suppliers, and customers to ensure on-time handover, commissioning and final acceptance.

The role requires 3+ years in PV/BESS, strong knowledge of PVSyst, HOMER and CAD/ETAP/DIgSILENT tools, and competence in FAT/SAT procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Project Engineer in solar PV and BESS or BESS-only systems.
• Familiar with FAT, SAT and commissioning procedures for MV equipment.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical project execution for utility-scale BESS and hybrid PV/BESS projects from handover to commissioning.
• Validate project scope, technical specs, contractual obligations and performance requirements.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, suppliers, EPC contractors and customers.
• Review and approve engineering designs, drawings and calculations.
• Manage technical risks and design changes across interfaces between battery systems, inverters and grid connections.
• Coordinate FAT, SAT, installation and commissioning, resolving technical issues.
• Ensure compliance with standards, safety regulations, grid requirements and project specs.
• Support pre-construction engineering, including system sizing and site travel across Southern and East Africa.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead technical project execution for utility-scale BESS and hybrid PV/BESS projects, from handover through commissioning and final acceptance.
• Validate project scope, technical specifications, contractual obligations and performance requirements.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, suppliers, EPC contractors and customers.
• Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, technical calculations and project documentation.
• Manage technical risks, design changes and interfaces between battery systems, inverters, control systems and grid connections.
• Coordinate Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), installation, commissioning and technical issue resolution.
• Ensure compliance with applicable standards, safety regulations, grid requirements and project specifications.
• Support pre-construction application engineering, including system sizing and design, and travel to project sites across Southern and East Africa.

Key Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Project Engineer in solar PV and BESS or BESS-only systems.
• Strong knowledge of solar PV and BESS design and modelling software, such as PVSyst and HOMER.
• Advanced proficiency in engineering software such as CAD, ETAP, DIgSILENT and MS Project.
• Understanding of regional regulatory frameworks, engineering calculations and technical design validation.
• Knowledge of FAT, SAT and commissioning procedures for medium-voltage (MV) equipment.
