Job summary

Candi Solar, Johannesburg-based solar solutions provider, seeks a Project Development Engineer to lead SA projects. You will support the sales team with technical designs, energy assessments, and PV/BESS sizing, while ensuring designs align with our financial models and client needs.

The role requires cross-functional collaboration with EPCs and partners and involves travel across SA. Ideal candidates hold a B.Eng or M.Eng in Electrical/Mechanical engineering with up to 5 years in the SA C&I

Qualifications

• B.Eng or M.Eng in Electrical/Mechanical with <5 years in SA C&I solar
• Experience sizing BESS is a plus
• Valid SA residency/work permit required

Responsibilities

• Support sales with client solutions (EYAs) using Helioscope
• Prepare technical proposals; interact with Candi financial model
• Perform client energy load assessments; interpret meter data
• Design Solar PV and BESS systems
• Liaise with EPCs to meet requirements; liaison with partners and clients
• Review EPC detailed designs; handover after contract
• Develop Candi processes and SOPs
• Frequent travel within SA; some Sub-Saharan travel
• Attend meetings; use MS Office and Google Docs/Sheets

Job Summary:

The company is looking to recruit an ambitious and energetic Project Development Engineer, who will help Candi to lead the revolution of solar. Given that Candi is taking solar into a new realm with a new set of tools, the role will require creativity, innovation and a new way of thinking.

Specifically, the job requires taking ownership of the following for the South African team:

• Supporting the sales team with finding solutions for clients, including but not limited to:
  • EYAs using Helioscope
  • Technical support with proposals, including interaction with the candi financial model
  • Client energy load assessments, interpretation of energy meter data
  • Solar PV and BESS designs
  • Liaising with EPCs on their design to ensure it meets our requirements
  • Liaising with channel partners and clients
  • Reviewing EPC detailed designs
  • Interacting with the project management team to ensure smooth handover of the project once the contract has been signed.
• Supporting development of Candi processes, standard operating procedures, etc.
• Periodic travel within SA. Potential travel to Sub-Saharan Africa, .
• Frequent periodic meetings with team members and line manager(s)
• MSOffice, Google Docs/Sheets proficiency

Location:

Johannesburg, combined with working from home (with frequent country-wide travel)

Hours:

Full time.

Job Requirements:

• B.Eng or M.Eng in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical engineering, with < 5 years experience in the C&I solar space in South Africa
• Experience in sizing BESS an added advantage
• A dynamic personality, able to support the project management team if needed, and liaise with clients
• Valid residency and/ or work permit for South Africa is mandatory
