Job description

Seeking a new career challenge? Then Woolpert is seeking you! Woolpert is hiring a Project Accountant to join our dynamic Finance team at our Johannesburg, South Africa office. This position reports to the Project Financial Support Group Manager and is responsible for reviewing and approving project set-ups, ensuring contracts, project plans, work breakdown schedules, and resource allocations are in place. Qualified candidates will be proficient with accounting systems.

Responsibilities

As a Project Accountant at Woolpert, you will:

  • Review and approve project set-ups according to company-wide project fundamentals, ensuring contracts, project plans, work breakdown schedules, and resource allocations are in place.
  • Prepare accurate and timely billings.
  • Review contract invoicing/pricing terms and enter accurate billing terms into the Management Information System (MIS).
  • Coordinate with the client’s accounting representative regarding invoicing requirements before issuing the first invoice.
  • Maintain communication with client representatives during the project billing process, including subconsultants.
  • Transfer misapplied time and expenses to correct projects within the MIS, coordinating approvals and documenting transfers for audit purposes.
  • Assist project managers with billing and collection monitoring.
  • Handle billing voids and write-offs with appropriate approvals.
  • Maintain project invoice, contract, and subconsultant files.
  • Assist in completing lien waivers and release of claims forms.
  • Initiate project close-out to ensure data accuracy and completeness in the MIS.
  • Review subconsultant contracts, invoicing, insurance certificates, and other documents for completeness and proper linkage.
  • Assist in reviewing Woolpert PSA contracts and external client contracts.
  • Follow up on change orders and monitor their status with clients.
  • Review collection issues, maintain AR ledger comments, and contact clients when necessary, escalating unresolved issues after 60 days.
  • Update monthly unbilled reports and explain reasons for WIP holds or write-offs.
  • Verify contract signing authority and update unexecuted contract statuses in the MIS.
  • Ensure CSP process compliance.
  • Participate in company-wide initiatives, including quality assurance and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
  • BCom Accounting or related degree with 4 years of relevant experience, or BCom Honors Accounting with 2 years of experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work US hours between 14:00 and 23:00.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems, reporting, and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively, undertake self-directed tasks, and handle overtime and occasional travel.
