Job summary

Avensys Consulting invites an experienced Programme Manager to join the PMO in Cape Town. You will lead complex, business-critical programmes and coordinate multiple projects to deliver strategic change, while aligning with regulatory, risk and security requirements.

You will engage with security, technology, risk and business teams, manage governance and budgets, and apply Agile, Waterfall or Hybrid approaches as appropriate. Fluent English required.

Qualifications

We are looking for an experienced Programme Manager to join the PMO function (Change Team), reporting to the relevant Portfolio Lead / Head of Practice.

This role is responsible for leading complex, business-critical programmes that deliver strategic change across the organisation and for our clients. You will provide overall programme leadership, coordinating multiple interdependent projects and workstreams while ensuring delivery aligns with business objectives, regulatory requirements and risk management expectations.

Essential Experience & Skills

• Minimum 5 years' experience operating as a Programme Manager, leading large-scale programmes comprising multiple projects and workstreams.
• Strong prior background in Project Management, with a proven track record of successfully delivering complex change initiatives.
• Significant experience delivering Information Security and/or Cyber Security programmes, with demonstrable knowledge of current security standards, frameworks and industry best practices.
• Ability to engage effectively with security, technology, risk, compliance and business teams, translating technical concepts into clear business outcomes.
• Proven experience managing programme-level governance, risks, dependencies, budgets and stakeholder communications.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and challenge senior leaders and build confidence in programme delivery.
• Experience working in fast‑paced, complex environments with competing priorities and high levels of ambiguity.
• Strong understanding of Agile, Waterfall and hybrid delivery approaches, with the judgement to apply the most appropriate methodology.
• Exceptional organisational, planning and communication skills.
• Fluent English, both written and spoken.

Nice to Have

• Experience delivering change within Financial Services, Banking, Asset Management, Fund Administration, FinTech or other regulated environments.
• Familiarity with regulatory, operational resilience, information security or cyber security requirements applicable to financial institutions.
• Experience leading large-scale transformation, integration, migration or onboarding programmes.
• Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Jira, Microsoft Project or similar portfolio and delivery management tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage large-scale, complex programmes comprising multiple projects and interdependent workstreams.
• Drive end-to-end delivery of Information Security and Cyber Security programmes, ensuring alignment with security standards, governance and business objectives.
• Translate executive-level objectives into clear programme plans, milestones, deliverables and measurable outcomes.
• Manage programme-level risks, issues, dependencies, budgets, resources and governance.
• Coordinate across Technology, Information Security, Risk, Compliance and Business teams to maintain delivery momentum.
• Establish and maintain strong programme governance, including status reporting, RAID management and escalation of critical issues.
• Engage, influence and appropriately challenge senior and executive stakeholders, providing clear visibility of programme progress and risks.
• Ensure security and risk considerations are embedded throughout the programme lifecycle.
• Select and apply appropriate Agile, Waterfall or Hybrid delivery methodologies based on programme requirements.
• Drive resolution of cross-project dependencies, delivery blockers and competing priorities.
• Provide clear and transparent programme reporting to senior stakeholders and leadership.
• Ensure programmes remain aligned with regulatory, risk management and organisational requirements.
• Lead transformation, integration, migration or onboarding initiatives where applicable.
• Promote accountability across project teams and workstreams to ensure delivery against agreed scope, timelines, budget and quality expectations.
