Lyceum College invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced and academically accomplished candidates for the position of

Programme Coordinator and Lecturer within the Faculty of Education.

This is an exciting opportunity for an education professional who is passionate about academic excellence, innovative teaching, programme leadership and student success. The successful candidate will coordinate designated teacher education programmes, contribute to curriculum development and academic governance, deliver high-quality teaching, and ensure that programme implementation remains academically coherent, operationally effective and compliant with applicable higher education requirements.

The incumbent will primarily coordinate the following programmes:

  • Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Intermediate Phase Teaching;
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Senior Phase and Further Education and Training Teaching.
Key Responsibilities
  • coordinating the effective academic and operational delivery of assigned programmes;
  • developing, reviewing and enhancing curricula, learning materials and assessments;
  • delivering engaging lectures, tutorials and academic support interventions;
  • ensuring alignment with institutional policies, the Higher Education Qualifications Sub-Framework and the requirements of the Council on Higher Education and other relevant regulatory bodies;
  • monitoring programme performance, student progression, retention and academic outcomes;
  • identifying and supporting students who may be academically at risk;
  • designing valid, reliable and appropriately challenging assessments;
  • coordinating assessment, examination and moderation processes;
  • providing constructive and developmental feedback to students;
  • managing and supporting independent contractors, module leaders and sessional lecturers;
  • contributing to programme reviews, accreditation processes and regulatory submissions;
  • participating in faculty and institutional academic governance structures;
  • maintaining accurate programme, assessment and student records;
  • contributing to research, scholarly activity and the integration of current research into teaching and curriculum development;
  • facilitating staff development and supporting the adoption of effective distance-learning practices and educational technologies;
  • developing and maintaining productive relationships with students, colleagues, external academics, professional bodies and other relevant stakeholders.
Requirements
  • a Master’s degree in Education or a closely related field;
  • a minimum of three years’ lecturing experience within a higher education environment, preferably within Education or a related discipline;
  • demonstrated experience in academic programme coordination or academic leadership;
  • experience in curriculum development, assessment design and programme review;
  • a sound understanding of the South African higher education regulatory and quality-assurance environment;
  • experience in working with Council on Higher Education standards, accreditation requirements or related regulatory frameworks;
  • strong academic writing, communication, administrative and organisational capabilities; and
  • proficiency in the use of digital learning platforms and educational technologies.
Advantageous Requirements
  • a doctoral qualification in Education or a relevant field;
  • experience in the coordination or delivery of teacher education qualifications;
  • experience in open, distance or online learning;
  • an established or developing research and publication profile;
  • experience in the supervision of undergraduate or postgraduate research;
  • experience in managing independent contractors or sessional academic staff; and
  • previous involvement in programme accreditation, reaccreditation or institutional quality-assurance processes.
