Job description

As part of its promotion of the scholarship of teaching and learning, the Faculty seeks to appoint a Professor / AssociateProfessor/Senior Lecturer in Information Technology (IT) Education & Computer Assisted Technology (CAT)Education within the Business Sciences Education Cluster (BSEC).

Key Performance Areas

The successful incumbent will make a significant contribution to the development of theFaculty. He/ She will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

  • Facilitate learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Information Technology (IT) Education, Computer
  • Assisted Technology (CAT) Education, Robotics and Coding Theory
  • Conduct research and publish in the fields of Information Technology (IT) Education, Computer Assisted Technology (CAT) Education, Robotics and Coding Theory
  • Construct a coherent research agenda consistent with the broad research goals of the Business Sciences EducationCluster and within the Faculty
  • Promote and support research activities in the Business Sciences Education Cluster including applications for fundedresearch, and cooperation with SSME and SLCA in research initiatives
  • Postgraduate supervision
  • Provide academic leadership
  • Curriculum development and assessment
  • Scholarship of engagement for societal impact
  • Serve on committees devoted to the development of the Business Sciences Education Cluster and faculty objectives

Minimum requirements for appointment at the rank of Professor:

  • A PhD or equivalent, in the field of Information Technology (IT) Education or Computer Science Education or arelated field
  • A qualification with Computer Science OR Information Systems
  • A strong academic record, with extensive experience in facilitating learning and teaching at both undergraduate andpostgraduate levels, preferably in one of the following subject areas: Information Technology (IT) Education,
    Computer Assisted Technology (CAT) Education, Robotics and Coding Theory
  • A strong track record of quality academic research with at least 15 DHET accredited publications related to the fieldof IT Education and/or CAT Education
  • A record of successful postgraduate supervision of Masters and PhD students
  • Evidence of expertise, national standing, and definite international presence in his/her discipline.
  • The integration of community engagement with learning and teaching and/or research
  • Leadership experience at both departmental and faculty levels
  • Undergraduate computer science/information systems at NQF level 6

Minimum requirements for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor:

  • A PhD or equivalent, in the field of Information Technology (IT) Education or Computer Science Education or arelated field
  • A qualification with Computer Science OR Information Systems
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, preferablyin one of the following subject areas: Information Technology (IT) Education, Computer Assisted Technology (CAT)Education, Robotics and Coding Theory
  • A track record of quality academic research with at least 10 DHET-accredited publications related to the field of ITEducation and/or CAT Education
  • A record of successful postgraduate supervision of Masters and PhD students
  • Evidence of expertise and national standing in his/her field of research
  • The integration of community engagement with learning and teaching and/or research
  • Leadership experience at both departmental and faculty levels
  • Undergraduate computer science/information systems at NQF level 6

Minimum requirements for appointment at the rank of Senior Lecturer:

  • A PhD or equivalent, in the field of Information Technology (IT) Education or Computer Science Education or arelated field
  • A qualification with Computer Science OR Information Systems
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, preferablyin one of the following subject areas: Information Technology (IT) Education, Computer Assisted Technology (CAT)Education, Robotics and Coding Theory
  • A track record of quality academic research with at least 4 DHET accredited publications related to the field of ITEducation and/or CAT Education
  • A record of successful postgraduate supervision of Masters and PhD students
  • Evidence of expertise and national standing in his/her field of research
  • The integration of community engagement with learning and teaching and/or research
  • Leadership experience at both departmental and faculty levels
  • Undergraduate computer science/information systems at NQF level 6

The following would be added advantages and/or recommendations for the Professor level (in addition to the above minimum requirements):

  • A NRF Rating is a strong recommendation
