Job description

The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that educates the students across multiple disciplines including Accounting, Finance, Management & Entrepreneurship, Economics, Industrial Psychology (Human Resources Management), Information Systems, Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS), Institute for Social Development, Political Studies and School of Government. The mission of the Department of Finance is to offer relevant world-class financial education and scholarship and promote financial literacy. We invite applications for this permanent Professor/Associate Professor post.

The successful candidate will be appointed in the Department of Finance and will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

• Facilitate learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in financial risk management & modelling, corporate finance, asset markets and pricing, and financial technology
• Conduct research and publish in financial risk management & modelling, corporate finance, asset markets and pricing, and financial technology
• Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision
• Provide academic leadership and administration
• Undertake curriculum development and assessment
• Participate in relevant community engagement and outreach
• Other related duties assigned by the chair of the department

Minimum Requirements - Professor:

• PhD or equivalent in the field of Finance or Economics
• Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching in two or more of the following fields: financial risk management & modelling, corporate finance, financial analysis, investment management, asset markets and pricing, or financial technology
• A significant record of quality peer reviewed publications, preferably in two or more of the following fields: financial risk management & modelling, corporate finance, asset markets and pricing, or financial technology
• A significant record of successful postgraduate supervision
• Evidence of the integration of community engagement for societal impact with learning, teaching and research
• Evidence of expertise, national standing, and definite international presence in his/her discipline
• Experience in generating research grants
  

Minimum Requirements - Associate Professor:

• PhD or equivalent in the field of Finance or Economics
• Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching in two or more of the following fields: financial risk management & modelling, corporate finance, asset markets and pricing, financial analysis, investment management or financial technology
• A track record of quality peer reviewed publications, preferably in two or more of the following fields: financial risk management & modelling, corporate finance, asset markets and pricing, or financial technology
• A record of successful postgraduate supervision
• Evidence of the integration of community engagement for societal impact with learning, teaching and research
• Evidence of expertise, national standing, and preferably an international presence in his/her discipline
