Job summary

Position Overview

An established architectural practice is seeking an experienced Professional Architect to join its team in Cape Town. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 10 years’ post-registration experience, with a strong track record in delivering large and complex architectural projects. The role requires an experienced project leader who can manage multidisciplinary teams and oversee projects through SACAP/PROCSA Stages 3–6, from technical design and documentation through to construction and close-out. Experience as a JBCC Principal Agent and exposure to retail, mixed-use or commercial projects will be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage complex architectural projects through PROCSA Stages 3–6
• Act as JBCC Principal Agent, administering construction contracts and managing projects through construction and close-out
• Lead multidisciplinary consultant coordination, including architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, fire, wet services and specialist consultants
• Produce and oversee high-quality technical and construction documentation
• Manage project programmes, technical coordination, design development, documentation, contract administration and site delivery
• Review and approve architectural documentation prepared by project teams
• Ensure compliance with applicable quality standards and statutory requirements
• Manage RFIs, technical queries, contractor submissions, shop drawings, variation orders and contract instructions
• Conduct regular site inspections and monitor construction quality
• Resolve technical and contractual matters as required
• Lead project meetings and maintain effective communication with clients, contractors, consultants and relevant authorities
• Mentor and develop architects, technologists and other junior professionals
• Support business development activities, proposals and client relationship management

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications & Registration

• Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Architecture
• Professional registration with SACAP as a Professional Architect

Experience

• Minimum 10 years’ post-registration experience
• Demonstrated experience delivering large, complex architectural projects across multiple sectors
• Extensive experience acting as a JBCC Principal Agent
• Proven experience leading multidisciplinary consultant teams
• Experience managing projects through PROCSA Stages 3–6
• Retail, mixed-use or commercial project experience will be advantageous

Technical Competencies

• Exceptional technical design and detailing skills
• Strong knowledge of South African building regulations, SANS standards and statutory approval processes
• Strong understanding of construction methodologies, contract administration and project delivery
• Advanced Autodesk Revit skills, including model management, documentation, scheduling and multidisciplinary coordination
• Strong working knowledge of Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) and BIM 360
• Proficiency in SketchUp, Autodesk Forma, Adobe Creative Suite and visualisation software will be advantageous
• Strong understanding of BIM coordination and digital project delivery
