Job summary

Joint Medical Holdings is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to perform as a Theatre Scrub Nurse in Durban. The role requires practice within the SANC-defined nursing scope, supervising staff in theatre, and ensuring the theatre runs at high standards.

You should have two years’ theatre scrub experience and be theatre-trained, with computer literacy. Preference given to candidates with SANC APC validation, ability to handle drugs, and willingness to work extra hours.

Qualifications

• Must hold SANC registration as a nurse with valid APC.
• Two or more years' experience as a Scrub Nurse in Theatre preferred.
• Theatre training or qualification preferred.
• Must be willing to work additional hours and be computer literate.

Responsibilities

• Practice within your scope of nursing as defined by SANC.
• Supervise staff in the theatre environment.
• Handle drugs and comply with scheduling requirements.
• Maintain theatre equipment and ensure readiness.
• Teach staff in the unit and uphold high theatre standards.

JOB DESCRIPTION

PURPOSE OF POSITION

To provide age-appropriate patient care according to the nursing scope of practice as defined by the South African Nursing Council (SANC).

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• Must be able to practice within your scope of practice as a Registered Nurse.
• Ability to understand and follow policies, procedures and protocols.
• Must be competent with the Hospital's Policies and Regulations.
• Ability to supervise staff in theatre.
• Must have experience in handling drugs and scheduling is a legal requirement.
• Equipment maintenance and motivations.
• Ability to teach staff in the unit.
• To ensure that Theatre is always running at the highest standards.
• Comply with SANC and stakeholder legislation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Must be registered with SANC as a Registered Nurse with valid APC.
• Good interpersonal skills with doctors, patients and colleagues are essential.
• Preferably have two or more years of experience as a Scrub Nurse in Theatre.
• Preferably be Theatre trained or qualified.
• Must be prepared to work additional hours.
• Must be computer literate – MS Word & Excel
