A leading company in civil engineering seeks a Professional Civil Engineer to oversee diverse projects including highways, bridges, and water systems. The ideal candidate should have a BSc degree in Civil Engineering, 3+ years of experience, and be registered with ECSA. Job Purpose
The Professional Civil Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, organising and overseeing the construction and operation of Civil Engineering projects such as: structural (dams bridges, roads, highways, runways, railways), geotechnical (earthworks, soils, excavations and geotechnical processes), transportation systems and hydraulic engineering systems (water resources and supply, pipelines, canals, water treatment, stormwater and drainage, sewerage systems and coastal engineering).
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
·BSc degree, or Honours in civil engineering
·Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.).
·Professional ability to apply engineering knowledge
·Possess excellent communication skills
·Must have the aptitude for time management
·Possessing mathematical skills is a must
·Ability to solve complex engineering problems and activities
·Good leadership qualities to lead the workforce at construction sites
·Ability to work outdoors in tough weather conditions
·Knowledge of working with computer-aided software
·3 years of greater industry experience
·Project Management skills
·Sound Knowledge of Public Service Policies, including IDMS fundamentals and other Infrastructure Delivery Treasury Regulations.
·Understanding of Municipal Engineering Projects processes
·Experience in managing SANRAL/ ACSA/TRANSNET or any other private sector projects.
Key Accountabilities
·Act as a Professional as per the Code of Ethics prescribed by ECSA.
·Take accountability and be responsible for decisions made during complex engineering problems and activities.
·Conducting research and developing new or improved theories and methods related to civil engineering.
·Advising on and designing infrastructure such as bridges, dams, harbours, roads, airports, railways, canals, pipelines, treatment works, waste-disposal and flood control systems, and residential, commercial, industrial and other large buildings.
·Lead Project Teams on various projects within the organisation.
·Determining and specifying construction methods, materials and quality standards and directing construction work.
·Establishing control systems to ensure efficient functioning of infrastructure as well as safety and environmental protection.
·Organising and directing the maintenance and repair of existing civil engineering infrastructure.
·Analysing the behaviour of soil and rock when placed under pressure by proposed structures and designing structural foundations.
·Analysing the stability of structures and testing the behaviour and durability of materials used in their construction.
·Manage engineering-related projects relating to Infrastructure Delivery within the Public Service space.
