Production Team Leader - Press - Automotive

Our client is localizing the production of automotive press parts and aims to significantly contribute to the advancement of South Africa's automotive industry, fostering economic development and job creation in the region.
The role's purpose is to oversee production activities, ensure a smooth process, and meet customer targets within the required time, quality standards, and cost-effectiveness. The role also involves maintaining a safe working environment and ensuring standardized work practices.
REQUIREMENTS
- Relevant Diploma in Operations Management or related fields, ISO Certification
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in a similar role within Automotive, Manufacturing, or related industries
- Knowledge of safety protocols, regulatory requirements, PPE, and equipment operation licenses
- Experience in reporting, including tracking attendance, output, downtime, and other key performance metrics
- Understanding of operating relevant machinery and equipment used in press production, along with knowledge of customer deliverables and the impact of failure or poor quality
- Ability to meet KPIs such as cycle times, safety, quality, and quantity
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Basic knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and IATF 16949 standards
- Understanding of production principles
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee operator workloads, ensure proper work allocation, and clarify responsibilities and standards
- Monitor team performance to achieve hourly and daily targets through effective planning and manpower utilization
- Investigate root causes of nonconformances and implement corrective actions
- Review daily production plans and communicate targets and objectives to the team
- Prepare for production activities, including machine tooling, die, materials, racks, and pallets
- Mentor, train, guide, and support team members
- Monitor employee relations and enforce disciplinary procedures when necessary
- Maintain high housekeeping standards for safety
- Implement and monitor quality standards in compliance with audits and ISO standards
- Conduct daily inspections and report on machine conditions
- Manage receipt of components and materials
- Complete documentation related to leave, overtime, etc.
- Work actively to reduce production losses, including man-hour and machine-hour losses
- Engage in continuous improvement activities targeting cycle times, defects, processes, and customer complaints
