Production Supervisor
My client, in the manufacturing industry, is looking to employ a Production Supervisor for their branch in Kempton Park.
The ideal candidate will manage the conversion of product from raw material into finished goods in the most efficient and cost-effective manner according to internationally benchmarked standards and practices.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Liaising with the factory manager regarding customer demand.
- Planning and scheduling production in line with the pacer plan and any changes in customer demand.
- Communicating planning schedules effectively with team leaders and team members.
- Ensuring short interval controls are performed at the correct times to meet production targets and maintain inventory levels.
- Monitoring production performance and implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Re-scheduling production based on demand changes, plant breakdowns, or shortages.
- Discussing production progress daily with team leaders and team members.
- Following up through daily documented meetings to address issues.
- Identifying production problems and discussing solutions with team leaders.
- Developing medium to long-term actions to improve performance and reduce variability.
Quality Management
- Maintain acceptable quality levels according to standards.
- Ensure employees are trained and aware of quality standards.
- Motivate employees to improve product quality.
- Review rejects, rework, and customer returns daily to implement corrective actions.
- Reduce quality defects by 50% annually through continuous improvement.
Plant Equipment and Safety
- Coordinate maintenance with the Factory Manager to improve plant reliability and safety.
- Ensure routine maintenance is conducted regularly.
- Address breakdowns promptly by liaising with the Factory Manager.
- Stop unsafe equipment use immediately.
- Ensure safety reports are completed regularly.
Financial Controls and Improvement Management
- Measure performance and investigate areas of poor performance.
- Develop action plans to reduce costs and control consumables.
- Control labor costs by managing overtime and efficiencies.
- Coordinate departmental improvements and performance enhancement initiatives.
Performance and Motivation
- Conduct daily meetings to discuss issues.
- Ensure clear understanding of responsibilities and review performance regularly.
- Implement corrective actions for underperformance.
Qualifications and Experience
- Min: Matric; ideally a diploma in Production Management.
- At least 4 years' supervisory experience.
- Experience in workplace improvement planning and implementation.
- Excellent motivational and management skills.
- Passion for staff development.
