Job summary

Durpro Workforce Solutions is seeking a Production Supervisor in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. The role involves overseeing and coordinating production activities, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards while effectively managing a team.

Job description

Purpose of the Job

To oversee and coordinate production activities to ensure adherence to safety, quality, and standard operating procedures, while effectively managing resources and supervising the production team to achieve operational targets.

Qualifications & Experience

Matric (Grade 12)

Diploma or Degree in Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field

Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Production Supervisor role within the automotive or manufacturing environment

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensure strict compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Supervise daily production operations to meet output, quality, and delivery targets.
  • Monitor and manage attendance, productivity, downtime, and shift performance.
  • Allocate and optimise resources, including labour, materials, and equipment.
  • Ensure the correct operation of Assembly welding production machinery and equipment.
  • Identify equipment or process issues and escalate maintenance requirements timeously.
  • Enforce standard operating procedures and quality standards.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and operational projects.
  • Maintain sound employee relations and discipline in line with labour legislation.
  • Compile, analyse, and interpret production and performance reports.
Technical & Functional Competencies
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and regulatory requirements in a manufacturing environment, including PPE and equipment operating licences.
  • Ability to identify safety risk/ address near misses/ 5s gaps and take required action to ensure a safe work area.
  • Sound understanding of manufacturing processes, including equipment operation, material handling, and production scheduling.
  • Proficient in generating and interpreting production reports, including attendance, output, downtime, and key performance metrics (OEE, Cycle time adherence, etc).
  • Good understanding of operating machinery and equipment used in the Assembly welding production process.
  • Strategic reallocation of resources and continuous review of work methods (Change point management).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with intermediate Excel skills.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and IATF 16949 standards.
  • Ability to identify root causes of production issues, analyse complex problems, and implement effective solutions to improve operational efficiency.
  • Strong communication skills to convey instructions, provide feedback, and facilitate training effectively.
