Job description

Our client, a market leader in their field, is seeking to employ an experienced Production Supervisor at their Durban operation. Candidates with 3–5 years’ experience in a manufacturing and / or FMCG environment secures.

Note:

  • This role will be responsible for a shift of production employees around 10-15 employees and will work day and night shifts in a rotational manner as well as be subject to notice for 12 hour shifts as per business requirement.

Requirements :

  • 3–5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 3 years’ supervisory experience managing teams.
  • Experience with continuous improvement and lean initiatives is an advantage.
  • Line manager experience, must have had people reporting to them for a minimum of 3 years.
  • Driver for customer excellence and understand the concept of the Customer Centricity in their day to day work.
  • FMCG background would be advantageous.
  • This role will report to the Distribution Centre Manager / Production Supervisor.
  • Tertiary qualification in Operations, Engineering, or Production Management.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Experience with inventory management systems (e.g., SAP, MFGPro, Manhattan, Nautilus).
  • Proactive thinker with strong problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities :

Operational Functions:

Ensure daily shift production targets are met.

Confirm finished products meet quality and standard requirements.

Ensure raw materials are collected and returned to the warehouse correctly.

Liaise daily with Sales/Customer Service departments to confirm production schedules.

Assist with staff shift planning based on business needs.

Support inventory control through cycle counts, stock takes, and FIFO practices.

Dispatch and Inventory:

Ensure quality checks and documentation for outbound deliveries are completed.

Monitor and investigate inventory deviations with proper documentation.

Ensure product collections follow procedure.

Control and reduce scrap by re-evaluating rejected or damaged products.

Identify and support process improvements in dispatch operations.

Productivity:

Ensure products are slit accurately as per order requirements.

Support investigation and resolution of customer complaints.

Ensure all production paperwork and product wrapping/labelling is completed correctly.

Identify productivity improvement opportunities using internal systems.

Machine Maintenance and Problem Solving:

Attend to machine breakdowns and support maintenance activities.

Perform regular cleaning, static tests, and trial jobs on machines.

Report equipment deviations and request necessary maintenance supplies.

Ensure machines are serviced and cleaned according to schedule.

Resolve minor mechanical/electrical issues before escalating.

Quality Assurance:

Monitor finished products throughout the day for defects.

Take corrective action on product discrepancies.

Coordinate with dispatch to ensure product readiness.

Participate in weekly Gemba walks and implement safety policies.

Seek and support cost-reduction opportunities.

Maintain a strong focus on 5S principles.

Health and Safety:

Wear appropriate PPE (safety shoes, glasses, gloves, earplugs) on site.

Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.

Actively report and address unsafe acts, conditions, and near misses.
