Job description

Job Title: Production Pharmacist
Location: Stellenbosch
Facility Type: SAHPRA GMP-approved API and Complementary Medicines Production Facility
Position Type: Full-Time (On-site)
Department: Manufacturing
Reports To: Responsible Pharmacist

Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Production Pharmacist to oversee all manufacturing operations and serve as the Deputy Responsible Pharmacist. This role is essential in ensuring compliance with GMP standards, implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and supporting production processes in both primary and secondary manufacturing areas—including formulation, filling, blending, encapsulation, and packaging.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) degree.
  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a Pharmacist.
  • Prior experience in GMP manufacturing (preferably in complementary medicines, cosmetics, or related sectors).
  • Working knowledge of GMP, FSSC 22000, or HACCP principles is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily production activities, including issuing and reviewing Batch Manufacturing Records (BMRs), authorizing production runs, and ensuring proper material reconciliation.
  • Implement and maintain Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), SOPs, and quality systems such as QMS and HACCP within the manufacturing department.
  • Lead and mentor a team of approximately 15 staff members, ensuring compliance with procedures and adherence to production schedules.
  • Support the Responsible Pharmacist with quality-related activities including complaint investigations and process validations.
  • Manage production deviations, change controls, and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs) in line with established procedures.
  • Collaborate with R&D and product development teams to enhance and improve production processes.
  • Serve as the Deputy Responsible Pharmacist in the absence of the Responsible Pharmacist.
