Job Role : Production Engineer

Location : Durban, South Africa

Qualifications :

• Matric
• Bachelor's degree preferably in Engineering or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Project Management certification (advantageous).

Experience :

• Proven experience in wire harness manufacturing within the automotive industry with at least 5 years in a managerial role.
• In-depth knowledge of production processes, equipment, and technologies related to wire harness manufacturing.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage teams and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to operational challenges.
• Familiarity with industry regulations, quality standards, and safety requirements in automotive manufacturing.
• Project management certification (e.g., PMP) is a plus.
• Proficiency in relevant software applications (e.g., CAD, ERP systems) and data analysis tools.

Key Responsibilities (not limited to):

Production / Operations Management :

• Develop, implement, and optimize operational strategies to enhance productivity, minimize downtime, and reduce costs.
• Monitor daily production activities to ensure adherence to schedules and quality standards.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to address operational challenges and improve workflow efficiency.
• Focus on managing safety, production, quality, planning, and costing.
• Supervise production staff including technicians, operators, and supervisors to ensure proper training, performance, and adherence to safety protocols.
• Conduct regular inspections of equipment, facilities, and processes to identify and resolve issues affecting efficiency or quality.
• Develop production plans and schedules to meet customer demands while optimizing resource utilization.
• Coordinate with sales, procurement, and engineering teams for timely delivery of products.
• Recruit, train, and supervise production staff.
• Provide leadership to ensure a safe and productive work environment.
• Conduct performance evaluations and develop training programs.

Production Engineering :

• Collaborate with engineering teams to design and implement efficient production processes.
• Continuously evaluate and optimize manufacturing processes for quality, waste reduction, and increased output.
• Introduce innovative techniques and technologies to enhance capabilities and competitiveness.

Quality :

• Implement and maintain quality control measures to meet industry standards and customer specifications.
• Establish and monitor quality assurance procedures throughout production.

Maintenance :

• Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs.
• Coordinate maintenance activities to minimize downtime.
• Manage relationships with equipment suppliers and service providers.
• Oversee maintenance and repair of production equipment.
• Lead projects related to process improvement, capacity expansion, and technology integration.

Safety & Risk Management :

• Develop and enforce safety protocols and procedures.
• Conduct safety audits and inspections.
• Implement risk management strategies to ensure compliance and safety.

Cost Management :

• Monitor production costs and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Develop and manage budgets for labor, materials, and overheads.
