Our client specializes in manufacturing and sales of wiring harnesses and components for automobiles.

Job Role: Production Engineer

Location: Durban, SA

Qualifications:

  • Matric
  • Bachelor's degree preferably in Engineering or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Project Management (Advantageous).

Experience:

  • Proven experience in wire harness manufacturing within the automotive industry, with at least 5 years in a managerial role.
  • In-depth knowledge of production processes, equipment, and technologies related to wire harness manufacturing.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage teams and collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to operational challenges.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations, quality standards, and safety requirements in automotive manufacturing.
  • Project management certification (e.g., PMP) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications (e.g., CAD, ERP systems) and data analysis tools.

Skills Required:

  • Intermediate computer literacy.
  • Use of measuring equipment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal and people management skills, with analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
  • Leadership skills to deliver process, manufacturing improvements, and projects.
  • Technical competencies in manufacturing (e.g., drawings, blueprints, maintenance).
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, quality compliance, and OSHA standards.
  • Safety risk management.

  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Deadline-oriented.
  • Clear criminal record.

Key Responsibilities:

Production/Operations Management:

  • Develop and optimize operational strategies to improve productivity, reduce downtime, and lower costs.
  • Monitor daily production to ensure schedules and quality standards are met.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to address operational challenges.
  • Manage safety, production, quality, planning, and costing.
  • Supervise production staff, including training and performance management.
  • Conduct inspections of equipment and processes for efficiency and quality.
  • Develop production plans to meet customer demands and optimize resources.
  • Coordinate with sales, procurement, and engineering teams for timely delivery.
  • Recruit, train, and oversee production staff.
  • Provide leadership to ensure safety and productivity.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and training programs.

Production Engineering:

  • Collaborate with engineering to design and implement efficient manufacturing processes.
  • Evaluate and optimize processes to improve quality and output.
  • Introduce innovative techniques and technologies.

Quality:

  • Implement quality control measures to meet standards and customer specs.
  • Establish quality assurance procedures.

Maintenance:

  • Develop preventive maintenance programs.
  • Coordinate maintenance to minimize downtime.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers and service providers.
  • Oversee equipment repairs and maintenance projects.
  • Lead projects for process improvement and technology integration.

Safety & Risk Management:

  • Develop and enforce safety protocols.
  • Conduct safety audits and inspections.
  • Implement risk management strategies.

Cost Management:

  • Monitor costs and identify savings opportunities.
  • Manage budgets for labor, materials, and overhead.
