Requirements include a Bachelor's/Master's in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering and 4+ years in production chemistry, with GC, HPLC, spectroscopy, and titrations experience. SPC knowledge is a plus.

About the Role

Our client, a leading entity in the downstream Oil & Gas sector, is seeking a dedicated Production Chemist to enhance their operational efficiency. This vital role is located in Midrand, Gauteng , a rapidly developing commercial and technological center. The Production Chemist will be responsible for monitoring and optimizing chemical processes, ensuring product quality, and troubleshooting operational issues. You will play a crucial part in maintaining the high standards of our client's petrochemical operations. This position requires a strong background in chemistry and process engineering, coupled with practical experience in an industrial setting. The role is based on-site to ensure direct oversight of plant operations and laboratory functions in Midrand, Gauteng .

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and control chemical processes to ensure optimal yield and product quality.
• Conduct regular analysis of raw materials, intermediate products, and finished goods using various analytical techniques.
• Troubleshoot process deviations and implement corrective actions to maintain operational stability.
• Develop and validate new analytical methods and testing procedures.
• Collaborate with process engineers and operators to identify and implement process improvements.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and prepare technical reports on process performance and quality control.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations in all laboratory and plant operations.
• Manage laboratory inventory and ensure proper functioning of analytical equipment.
• Participate in process hazard analyses and contribute to safety reviews.
• Provide technical support and guidance to operational teams regarding chemical aspects of production.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in a production or process chemistry role, preferably within the Oil & Gas or petrochemical industry.
• Strong knowledge of analytical techniques such as GC, HPLC, spectroscopy, and titrations.
• Familiarity with process control systems and industrial plant operations.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficient in laboratory safety procedures and environmental regulations.
• Good communication and reporting skills.
• Experience with statistical process control (SPC) is an advantage.
• Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality.
