The role in a nutshell :

We're looking for an exceptional lawyer to join our busy Legal team as Legal Counsel.

You will be based at Luno's Cape Town office and be an integral part of a growing Legal team that seeks to provide world-class service to our business globally. You will provide clear, focused, and pragmatic advice on the full spectrum of legal matters impacting a rapidly growing and truly global business in a pioneering industry.

The role requires you to be dynamic and commercially minded, and to problem-solve for the business on a day-to-day basis.

Your mission will be :

1. Providing timely and proactive advice to the executive team and internal business stakeholders.
2. Advising on, and working with teams in business to implement, a wide array of strategic commercial projects, including marketing campaigns, new products, and business models.
3. Contract drafting, negotiation, and reviewing for and with internal business stakeholders.
4. Working with and managing external legal advisors, as required.
5. Engaging with global regulators and working on regulatory approvals and licenses, as required.
6. Assisting in establishing and managing legal policies and procedures.
7. Monitoring and keeping abreast of global policy and regulatory developments and informing the business of updates and changes.
8. Playing a key role in raising internal awareness of key legal issues that affect our customers and our business.
9. Assisting in resolving customer issues where necessary and ensuring our customers enjoy stellar service.

In your first six months, you will:

1. Develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders in the business across all jurisdictions where Luno operates.
2. Develop a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter relevant to your role.
3. Become an integral member of Luno's legal team, demonstrating critical judgment and an ability to work independently and as part of a team.

A little about you :

1. 2-4 years experience post articles of clerkship at a reputable law firm or in-house role.
2. Strong academic credentials, with a law degree from a top law school or tertiary institution.
3. Excellent communication skills, analytical rigor, and high attention to detail.
4. A strong team player, with high EQ and a positive attitude.
5. The ability to manage and deliver on multiple projects with competing deadlines.
6. Sound business judgment, and a pragmatic approach, producing top quality, concise, and practical legal advice across a broad range of matters.
7. Willingness and flexibility to learn and adapt in an exciting and evolving industry.
8. The ability to think critically and creatively to solve complex problems, while protecting Luno from unacceptable risk.
9. The ability to work across teams, functions, and geographies, with high autonomy.
10. Basic knowledge of and passion for cryptocurrencies (advantageous).
