Job summary

SMD Technologies Pty Ltd in Gauteng seeks a proactive Product Development Assistant to support the product development lifecycle, including research, sourcing, testing and documentation. You will coordinate projects and assist with category administration in a fast-paced team environment.

The role emphasises collaboration with Sales, Marketing, Compliance and Procurement, while leveraging Power BI for data-driven insights and reporting. Previous exposure to consumer electronics is beneficial.

Qualifications

• Qualification in product development, business, marketing, consumer science or design.
• 1–3 years' experience in product development, coordination or related roles.
• Experience in consumer electronics, FMCG, retail or wholesale is advantageous.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
• Exposure to Power BI or data analysis tools preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with development and enhancement of new and existing products from concept to final product.
• Conduct market research on trends, competitors and customer needs.
• Assist with sourcing products, suppliers, samples and information.
• Coordinate product testing, samples and quality checks to meet standards.
• Maintain accurate product specifications, manuals and packaging info.
• Support tracking of timelines, milestones, samples and approvals.
• Help manage product categories, launches and performance.
• Assist with analysing sales data and preparing reports in Power BI.
• Gather customer and market feedback to drive product improvements.
• Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Compliance, Operations and Procurement.
