Procurement Buyer Manager
Key Responsibilities
- Source and procure equipment, parts, and materials related to water treatment systems (e.g., pumps, valves, filters, tanks, instrumentation)
- Obtain and compare supplier quotations; negotiate pricing, lead times, and payment terms
- Develop and maintain preferred supplier relationships and approved vendor lists
- Ensure accurate and timely placement of purchase orders; follow up on deliveries
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with stock forecasting in coordination with project and production teams
- Collaborate with engineering, project management, finance, and logistics teams to align procurement with timelines and budgets
- Assist with import/export processes and customs documentation when required
- Maintain procurement records, contracts, and documentation for audits and reporting
- Identify opportunities for cost savings, process improvements, and strategic sourcing
- Support sustainability initiatives by sourcing eco-friendly and compliant materials
Requirements
- National Diploma or Degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Engineering, or a related field
- 37 years' experience in a procurement or buying role, preferably in engineering, manufacturing, or the water/environmental industry
- Strong technical understanding of industrial components and systems used in water treatment or similar sectors
- Proven ability to negotiate and manage supplier contracts
- Proficiency in procurement software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Pastel, SYSPRO, or similar)
- Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills
- Valid drivers license and own transport, with willingness to travel to suppliers or project sites when required
- Knowledge of BBBEE compliance and local supplier development is advantageous
- Familiarity with chemicals, pumps, valves, instrumentation, and mechanical components used in water treatment systems is a strong advantage
