Job summary

A maritime company based in Cape Town is seeking an experienced individual for a waste water management role. The responsibilities include continuous operation, maintenance, and laboratory testing of waste water management plants, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. Candidates should have a solid understanding of safety protocols and the ability to train and supervise crew members. This position emphasizes close communication with stakeholders and technical reporting.

Qualifications

  • Operate and maintain waste water management plant.
  • Report malfunctions to the Staff Engineer.
  • Conduct laboratory tests and ensure compliance.

Job description

Duties include (but are not limited to):

Continuous operation of the waste water management plant and reporting malfunctions to the Staff Engineer

Safe operation, maintenance and repair of waste water management plants

Executing laboratory tests of waste water samples

Compliance with all relevant flag state and class as well as other applicable regulations

Close communication and reporting to all stakeholders and superiors

Participating the daily engine officers morning meeting if assigned to

Enforcement of the rules of health care, occupational safety and fire protection within the whole engine department and responsible to conduct or delegate relevant training

Training, guidance and supervision of all subordinated crewmembers

Organizing and Performing of maintenance as per requirement of PMS for the assigned sub-department, running update of maintenance data including inventory check of spares and consumables

Entries into relevant logs as per legislation and the requirements of the ship owner

Fulfilment of responsibilities from the Environmental Compliance Plan

Ensure efficient operation of technical equipment

Comply with QMS (Quality Management System) and LMS (Learning Management System) requirements

Supports planning/ evaluation of dry docks and external repair/ service activities

Supports an effective and sustainable health and safety culture and environment on board, follows strictly HESS regulations and any Health and Safety Protocols in force to prevent the spread of diseases on board and reports to the Head of Department any observed violations of the Company's health procedures.
