Job summary

Searchrsa.com is seeking a senior maintenance engineer to lead plant instrumentation maintenance and drive improvements on PLCs and drives. You will manage projects, modify systems, and ensure compliance with OSHAct while planning for future technology.

You will classify equipment, set testing standards, and oversee documentation changes. A strong background in electrical/electronic engineering, with 5–10 years’ experience and 2–5 years in management, is required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and fault find on plant instrumentation e.g. PLC, Drives, etc.
• Ensure projects and modifications meet required specifications and deadlines by managing projects and modifications, adjudicating quotes, and ensuring compliance with required specifications and OSHAct.
• Contribute to future planning on site and new technology by recommending methods to improve the end product and justifying equipment purchases.
• Understand and own plant classifications by checking existing systems and re-classifying equipment for focused maintenance and adequate spares.
• Set test procedures by defining limits and specifications for all electronic equipment and using standard test methods from suppliers.
• Manage changes to base documentation such as manuals, P&ID, and instrumentation drawings.
• Develop maintenance procedures with Engineering by coordinating with suppliers and using engineering documentation.
• Perform root cause analyses by understanding equipment design and analyzing electrical stoppages to optimize energy use.
• Work safely and promote job safety.
• Perform after-hours standby duty on the plant.
• Manage a team of Technicians.

Job description

Job Responsibilities

• Maintain and fault find on plant instrumentation e.g. PLC, Drives, etc.
• Ensure that all projects and modifications meet required specifications and deadlines by managing projects and modifications, adjudicating quotes, and ensuring compliance with required specifications and OSHAct.
• Become an integral part of any future planning on the site, new technology of present plant and processes by recommending methods that will improve the end product, justifying the purchase of the best equipment to do the job and determining the life span of electronic equipment and plans for replacement.
• Understand and own plant classifications by checking existing systems, classifying new equipment, and re-classifying own equipment when required, in order to focus maintenance on more critical equipment and have the correct spares and stock levels.
• Set test procedures by recommending set limits and specifications for all electronic equipment and use specialized methods, by getting standard test methods from suppliers and periodicity checks in order to perform correct fault finding and comply with PG Bison standards.
• Manage changes to base documentation, i.e. manuals, P&ID, and all instrumentation drawings.
• Develop maintenance procedures in conjunction with the Engineering department by contacting suppliers of relevant equipment, utilizing manuals, P&ID, and engineering documentation, and checking all existing maintenance procedures.
• Perform root cause analyses by understanding the design basis of the equipment, optimizing the energy consumption of the plant, and analyzing electrical stoppages.
• Work safely and promote job safety.
• Perform after-hours standby duty on the plant.
• Manage a team of Technicians.

Required Minimum Qualification

• National Diploma, B.Eng. or BSC in Electrical, Electronic Engineering.
• Recognized Engineering Trade Test.
• GCC will be an added advantage but not a prerequisite.

Required Minimum Experience

• Between 5-10 years Engineering or Trade experience, of which 2-5 years in a management role.
• Advanced Automation will be an added advantage.
