Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process design for water/wastewater.
• Experience with process simulation software such as BioWin or AqWise.
• Solid knowledge of physical, chemical and biological water treatment processes.
• Familiarity with membrane technologies (RO, UF, MF) is advantageous.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client, a reputable engineering firm specializing in environmental solutions, is looking for a dedicated Process Design Engineer to join their team in Randburg, Gauteng, ZA. You will be involved in all phases of the project lifecycle, from conceptual design and feasibility studies to detailed engineering and commissioning support. Key Responsibilities

• Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) for water treatment plants.
• Perform mass and energy balances, equipment sizing, and process calculations.
• Select appropriate treatment technologies and equipment (e.g., filtration, membrane processes, chemical dosing, biological treatment).
• Conduct treatability studies and pilot plant trials to validate process designs.
• Prepare process design packages, including design reports, specifications, and operating manuals.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams (civil, mechanical, electrical) to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Provide technical support during the construction and commissioning phases of projects.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant environmental regulations, industry standards, and client requirements.
• Conduct site visits for data collection and project execution.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing within the department.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process design, specifically in water and wastewater treatment.
• Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., BioWin, AqWise, or similar).
• Strong understanding of physical, chemical, and biological water treatment processes.
