Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Process Engineer specialized in water treatment for a fully remote role within South Africa. You will design and implement advanced water and wastewater processes for municipal and industrial clients, leveraging WaterGEMS/EPANET and other tools.

Ideal candidates have 6+ years of design experience, strong project management and regulatory knowledge, and may hold Pr. Eng registration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in process design for water and wastewater treatment.
• Experience with filtration, membranes (RO, UF), ion exchange, disinfection, and biological treatment.
• Familiarity with water chemistry, quality parameters, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop water and wastewater treatment processes including PFDs, P&IDs, and equipment specs.
• Conduct pilot studies and treatability tests to evaluate treatment technologies.
• Perform process simulations to optimize performance, energy use, and chemical consumption.
• Ensure designs comply with environmental regulations, permits, and standards.
• Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, and operation.
• Troubleshoot operational issues in water and wastewater treatment.
• Mentor junior engineers and share technical guidance on projects.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in process design and engineering for water and wastewater treatment applications.
• Proven expertise in various water treatment technologies, including filtration, membrane processes (RO, UF), ion exchange, disinfection, and biological treatment.
• Familiarity with water chemistry, water quality parameters, and regulatory requirements.
• Experience with process simulation software (e.g., WaterGEMS, EPANET, or similar) is desirable.
• Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively in a remote setting.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client-facing skills.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) registration is a plus.
• Must be legally authorized to work in South Africa .
