Job summary

Placements24 seeks a highly skilled Process Chemist to join the R&D and production support team in Stellenbosch. You will develop, optimize, and scale up chemical processes for manufacturing, ensuring safety, quality and efficiency across production stages.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years in process development, strong knowledge of kinetics and thermodynamics, and hands-on experience with HPLC, GC and NMR. Collaborative, innovative mindset is essential.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field with focus on organic or process chemistry.
• 3–5 years of experience in process development within chemical/pharmaceutical industries.
• Strong knowledge of reaction kinetics, thermodynamics and chemical engineering principles.
• Proficiency in HPLC, GC and NMR analytical techniques.
• Experience with process safety management (PSM) and hazard analysis.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize chemical synthesis routes and manufacturing processes.
• Conduct lab-scale experiments and pilot plant trials to validate and scale up processes.
• Analyze process data to improve yield, purity and efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize chemical synthesis routes and manufacturing processes.
• Conduct laboratory-scale experiments and pilot plant trials to validate and scale up processes.
• Analyze process data to identify areas for improvement in yield, purity, and efficiency.
• Ensure all chemical processes comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
• Troubleshoot process-related issues and provide technical support to the production team.
• Document research findings, process parameters, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
