About the Role

Our client, a global leader in telecommunications infrastructure, is seeking an accomplished Principal RF Design Engineer to join their advanced research and development division in Pretoria. This senior role is integral to the innovation and optimization of radio frequency systems, focusing on next-generation wireless technologies. You will be responsible for leading complex RF design projects, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to the strategic direction of RF product development. The position requires a deep theoretical understanding coupled with practical, hands‑on experience in antenna design, propagation modeling, and RF system performance analysis. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, simulation, and optimization of RF components and systems for wireless communication devices and infrastructure.
• Develop novel antenna designs and RF front-end solutions to meet stringent performance requirements.
• Perform detailed RF propagation modeling and interference analysis for cellular networks (4G/5G/Future).
• Conduct rigorous testing and validation of RF designs, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., 3GPP).
• Collaborate with hardware and software teams to ensure seamless integration of RF solutions.
• Mentor and guide junior RF engineers, fostering their technical growth and development.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in RF technology, including new materials, simulation techniques, and testing methodologies.
• Contribute to the strategic planning and roadmapping of future RF product development.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex RF performance issues in lab and field environments.
• Author technical documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and patent disclosures.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, with a specialization in RF and Microwave Engineering.
• 12+ years of progressive experience in RF design and development within the telecommunications industry.
• Expertise in antenna theory, electromagnetic field simulations (e.g., HFSS, CST), and RF circuit design.
• In-depth knowledge of cellular technologies (GSM, UMTS, LTE, 5G NR) and associated RF parameters.
• Proficiency in RF test equipment (e.g., VNA, spectrum analyzers, signal generators) and measurement techniques.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to tackle complex technical challenges.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
• Experience with mmWave and sub-6GHz frequency bands is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with system-level RF design and co-existence issues.
