Job summary

The Department of Health in Johannesburg seeks a Senior Clinical Psychologist registered with the HPCSA as an Independent Psychologist. You will lead the Psychology department, oversee HR, finance and resources, and ensure compliance with public service policies while supervising interns and teaching students.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years post-Community Service experience, strong teaching and research capabilities, and proven leadership in a multidisciplinary health setting in Gauteng.

Qualifications

• Registered with HPCSA as Independent Psychologist.
• Minimum 3 years post-Community Service experience as Clinical Psychologist.
• Experience in the Public Health Sector is advantageous.
• Experience in management, supervision and teaching of psychologists.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Psychology department including HR, finance and resources.
• Ensure compliance with public service legislation, policies and procedures.
• Provide a clinical service within the hospital's treatment units and supervise interns.
• Teach undergraduates and supervise research projects.
• Represent the department in provincial and hospital committees and lead performance management.

Requirements :

• The candidate must have appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health and Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a psychologist. Current registration with HPCSA as an Independent Psychologist. Minimum of 3 years appropriate experience as a Clinical Psychologist, after completion of Community Service (1 Year).Experience in the Public Health Sector will serve as an added advantage.Competencies: Experience in management, Experience in supervision of another Psychologist. Experience in Clinical and Didactic teaching. Academic experience. Experience in the use and supervision of various psychometric assessments. Computer literate.

Duties :

• Management of the Psychology department. Human Resource management, finance management, resource management, operational and strategic planning. Ensure compliance with public service legislations, policies, and procedures. Ability to work as a member of multidisciplinary team. Assist with implementing and monitoring of effective record keeping, accurate statistics collection and analysis and high standards of quality assurance. Communicate effectively with all staff members, supervisory and various members of the medical team. Evaluation and training. Implement and manage the performance management and Development system within the department. Manage and contribute effectively to staff meeting, team meeting, committee meetings. Represent the department in Provincial and hospital committees. To provide a clinical service within the treatment’s units of the hospital. Joint appointee of the Department of Psychiatry, University of the Witswaterand. Supervision of Interns, Community Service Psychologists. Teaching of undergraduate students. Promoting, conducting and supervising research projects.
