Placements24 seeks a Principal Mining Engineer - Planning in Cape Town to lead long-term strategic mine plans across open-pit and underground operations. You will optimize resource use, evaluate feasibility studies, and drive value through innovative planning methods.

You will mentor a team of mining engineers, collaborate with operations and executives, and ensure plans align with business goals while incorporating geotechnical and environmental constraints. Master’s degree preferred; Pr.Eng.

Qualificações

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering (or related field); Master’s preferred.
• Minimum 12 years in mine planning and engineering with track record in strategic planning for complex mining operations.
• Extensive experience with industry-standard mine planning and scheduling software.

About the Role

Our client, a leading diversified mining group, is seeking a highly accomplished Principal Mining Engineer - Planning to lead their strategic mine planning initiatives in Cape Town, Western Cape, ZA. This pivotal role involves developing long-term mine plans, optimizing resource utilization, and ensuring the economic viability and operational efficiency of our extensive mining portfolio. You will work at the forefront of mine planning technology and methodology, driving innovation and sustainability across multiple commodities. This position is critical to our company's strategic growth and operational success.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and manage comprehensive, long-term strategic mine plans (5-20 years) for open-pit and/or underground operations.
• Conduct detailed feasibility studies, economic evaluations, and scenario analyses to support strategic decision-making.
• Optimize mine designs, production schedules, and resource allocation to maximize value and minimize costs.
• Utilize advanced mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac) and modeling techniques.
• Oversee the integration of geological data, geotechnical constraints, and environmental considerations into mine plans.
• Lead and mentor a team of mine planning engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with operations, engineering, and executive management to ensure alignment between strategic plans and operational execution.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in mine planning and resource management.
• Prepare high-level technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for senior leadership.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 12 years of experience in mine planning and engineering, with a proven track record in strategic planning for complex mining operations.
• Extensive experience with industry-standard mine planning and scheduling software.
• Demonstrated expertise in mine economics, feasibility studies, and financial modeling.
• Strong understanding of various mining methods (open-pit and/or underground) and processing techniques.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Proven ability to manage complex projects and large datasets.
• Registered Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng.) or equivalent professional certification is a strong asset.
