About the Role

Our client, a major mining operator, is seeking an experienced and highly competent Principal Mine Surveyor to oversee all surveying operations for their significant mining projects located near Polokwane, Limpopo . This role is critical for ensuring accurate spatial data management, precise mine planning, and compliance with regulatory requirements. The Principal Mine Surveyor will be responsible for implementing and maintaining advanced surveying technologies and methodologies, managing survey data, and leading a team of mine surveyors. Accuracy, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of underground and open-pit surveying techniques are paramount. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct and manage all aspects of mine surveying, including surface, underground, and open-pit operations.
• Utilize and maintain advanced surveying equipment and technologies, such as total stations, GPS/GNSS, laser scanners, and drones.
• Develop and implement survey control networks to ensure high accuracy and consistency of spatial data.
• Process, analyze, and report survey data using specialized software (e.g., AutoCAD, Deswik, Vulcan).
• Prepare accurate survey plans, cross-sections, and volumetric calculations for mine planning and reconciliation.
• Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory surveying standards and requirements.
• Provide technical guidance and supervision to a team of mine surveyors and technicians.
• Collaborate closely with mine engineers, geologists, and production personnel to support operational needs.
• Maintain comprehensive survey records and databases.

Requirements

• National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mine Surveying or a related discipline.
• Professional registration as a Professional Mine Surveyor (Pr.Mine.Surv) with a relevant body (e.g., PLATO).
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in mine surveying, with significant experience in complex underground or open-pit environments.
• Proficiency with industry-standard surveying software and hardware.
• Strong understanding of geodetic principles and coordinate systems.
• Experience with drone surveying and 3D laser scanning is highly advantageous.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data management skills.
