Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 12 years of progressive experience in metallurgical process engineering within mining/minerals.
• Extensive knowledge of metallurgical processes (e.g., comminution, flotation, leaching, hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy).

About the Role

Our client, a leading mining company with diverse operations, is seeking a highly experienced Principal Metallurgical Process Engineer to join their technical excellence team. This senior role, based in East London, Eastern Cape , will provide expert guidance and innovation in metallurgical process design, optimization, and troubleshooting across various commodities. The Principal Engineer will be instrumental in driving efficiency improvements, enhancing recovery rates, and ensuring the implementation of cutting-edge technologies. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and optimization of metallurgical processes, focusing on enhanced recovery, cost reduction, and environmental performance.
• Provide expert technical support and troubleshooting for existing plant operations.
• Conduct feasibility studies and pilot plant trials for new process technologies and modifications.
• Develop process design packages, including PFDs, P&IDs, and equipment specifications.

Requirements

• A Master's degree or Ph.D. in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in metallurgical process engineering within the mining and minerals industry.
• Extensive knowledge of various metallurgical processes (e.g., comminution, flotation, leaching, hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy).
• Proficiency in metallurgical simulation software (e.g., METSIM, Outotec HSC Chemistry, GEMS).
• Demonstrated experience in process design, scale-up, troubleshooting, and optimization.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information effectively.
• Proven ability to lead technical projects and influence stakeholders.
• Experience with project management methodologies is a plus.
• Familiarity with diverse commodities and mineral processing challenges.
