Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Principal AI Research Scientist to lead generative AI initiatives in a fully remote role across South Africa. You will guide research in LLMs, diffusion models, and GANs, publish in top venues, and mentor a team of researchers while shaping strategic AI direction.

We expect a PhD, 7+ years of research, deep learning expertise, and strong Python experience with TensorFlow or PyTorch.

Qualifications

• PhD required or equivalent track record in generative AI research.
• 7+ years of research experience with a strong publication record.
• Proven ability to lead research projects and mentor junior researchers.

Responsibilities

• Lead cutting-edge research in generative AI (LLMs, diffusion models, GANs).
• Publish findings in top AI conferences and journals.
• Mentor and guide a team of researchers and engineers.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to apply generative models in real-world products.
• Drive the technical strategy for generative AI research and ensure ethical considerations.
